Cobleskill-Richmondville’s Backpack Program received two boosts at a recent school board meeting.
The Cobleskill Exchange Club gave $500 and Fenimore Asset Management gave $1,000 to the Backpack Program at a November 13 meeting.
The Backpack Program has C-R staffers fill backpacks with food and other supplies each Friday so that kids in need have something to eat every weekend.
All four C-R schools––Ryder, Radez, Golding and the high school––participate.
“It’s our responsibility to help these families,” the Exchange Club’s Ron Macan, who chairs the club’s Youth Committee, told school board members.
“That’s why I’m here tonight.”
“You set an example of service and generosity,” responded Supreintendent Carl Mummenthey in accepting the gift from Mr. Macan.
A spokesperson for Fenimore Asset Management said the firm recognized how important the Backpack Program is.
“Many of our people thought the Backpack Program is a really good idea,” she said. “It really reaches families in need.”
