There's a new car dealer in Schoharie County.
Tony Domiano, who owns dealerships in Binghamton and Pennsylvania, bought the Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep, Ram lines from Jody Gable.
The sale closed two weeks ago and includes all the land and buildings on the south side of Route 7, across from the Gable Auto and Truck Center, which Mr. Gable will retain.
Mr. Domiano was unavailable for an interview, but his new general manager, Joey Ventura, described the new owner as an aggressive marketer who wants his business involved in the community.
"Tony's a big believer in staying local," Mr. Ventura said. "He believes if you take care of the community, the community will take care of you."
The dealership--now Cobleskill Chrysler, Dodger, Jeep, Ram--already has many more cars and trucks, and Mr. Ventura is expecting 190 more soon.
Vehicles from all three of Mr. Domiano's dealerships will be available to Cobleskill customers, Mr. Ventura said.
"Between the three dealerships, here are 800 used cars to choose from," he said. "And that's just used cars. New cars, about 1,500.
"The selection's so huge, I don't see any reason anyone has to go any place else."
While there will be many more cars and trucks, the staff is staying the same. Paul France is in charge of service, Bill Biegel directs the parts department, and Mike Simmons is still finance manager.
"You'll still see every face on the service side, every face in sales," Mr. Ventura said.
Mr. Domiano, who's been in the auto business for more than 50 years, runs his companies on three beliefs, Mr. Ventura said: Treat customers well and keep them happy; keep the business clean and maintain high standards; and take care of employees.
Optimistic about the new owner's approach, Mr. Ventura is looking forward to the new challenge of being general manager.
"We don't want people to feel they have to go to Albany to buy a car," he said. "We want Albany coming here."
Mr. Domiano's other dealerships are Binghamton Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep, Ram and Tony Domiano Chrysler, Dodger, Jeep, Ram in Eynon, Pennsylvania.
