Some 1,000-plus strong, New York State FFA’ers took over the SUNY Cobleskill campus from Thursday through Saturday for their 85th annual state convention.
The event was hosted by the local Cobleskill-Richmondville, Schoharie, and Sharon Springs Central Schools FFAs and involved more than 100 judges and other volunteers.
FFA members from across the state spent three days touring the campuses and local businesses, attending workshops, and competing in everything from ag mechanics to parliamentary procedure.
There was plenty of time for fun—a talent show, movies, and a dance were just a few of the ways they spent their down time.
SUNY Chancellor Nancy Zimpher was the guest speaker at Saturday’s closing ceremonies, which also featured closing remarks by retiring state president Ken Quick and the awarding to 2010 Empire Degrees to nine local FFA members: Sean Bailey, David Boreali, Thomas Jaqueway, Greg Lloyd, Nate Wilms, and Shanelle Wilms of the Schoharie Valley Chapter and Ashleigh Myers, Natalie Spiess, and Katrina VansArdal of the Sharon Springs Chapter.
